“Covid-19 Vaccination” project funded by GIZ

The rapid spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic in the world and in Cameroon since the beginning of 2020 has seriously affected the sexual and reproductive health and rights of adolescents and young people. As the data show us, the pandemic and its consequences are undermining the availability of and access to basic services, including sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, as well as the programs that provide integrated sexuality education (CSE) and prevention or intervention in cases of sexual and gender-based violence. Also, the Covid-19 has had a strong psychological impact which is characterized to date by a high rate of stress or anxiety.

The pandemic has disrupted access to care, diverted funding, hampered supply chains, and diverted the attention of policymakers and the media away from sexual and reproductive health priorities. The most vulnerable people in society – adolescents and young people – especially young girls and women – are disproportionately exposed to these negative effects.

In the North-West and South-West regions already devastated for 04 years by the separatist war, the battered populations in certain localities have almost no support available.

It is in this context that PJD's mission is to contribute to improving the living conditions of vulnerable populations, particularly women, girls, adolescents and young people through advocacy, social mobilization, communication, sharing of experience and technical support received local financial support from GIZ for the implementation of activities in support of the COVID 19 response to ensure access to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) / Family Planning services , psychosocial support for adolescents/ young people in the North-West and South-West (NOSO) regions of Cameroon. In short, carry out screening, vaccination and community referral of interested populations.

Strategic planning is carried out upstream by Presse Jeune Développement (PJD) and operational implementation will be done by 04 Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), through 20 peer educators.

The implementation of the said project will take place in the first quarter of 2022. This first phase will allow us and our financial partner to measure the impact of the project in the targeted area. Several activities are planned as part of the execution of the project, namely: mass awareness campaigns, educational talks, discussion and support groups, face to face meetings, training workshops, digital campaigns and the production and broadcast of audio spots on community radio stations to raise awareness among teenagers/young people about Covid-19.

The monitoring-evaluation of the project will be done on the one hand by means of tools for collecting, processing and analyzing the data collected, and on the other hand by supervision missions and data validation workshops. The performance framework developed will serve as a dashboard and performance indicator to quantitatively measure the work accomplished.
